Children Use Art to Come to Terms With Boko Haram Trauma

April 14 marks one year since 276 Chibok girls were kidnapped from their school in Borno, Nigeria. UNICEF reports that more than 200,000 have crossed into neighboring Cameroon, Chad and Niger after their villages in northern Nigeria were attacked or threatened. According to the organization, Nigerian child refugees have been dealing with their Boko Haram trauma through art.

This video tells the story of 10-year-old Sani. He was captured by the armed group after trying to flee attacks on his hometown in northern Nigeria and is now with his family in Sayam Forage Camp in Niger. UNICEF say they have been providing psychosocial support in Niger, sometimes through art, for 10,000 children. Credit: YouTube/UNICEF
