Civil Rights Leader Speaks 50 Years After Selma March

Civil rights leaders gathered at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Selma, Alabama, on March 5 to honor those who died during the voting rights movement 50 years ago. Among the activists who attended were Rev. F.D. Reese, Amelia Boynton-Robinson and Bernard Lafayette, according to local media. This video shows Lafayette speaking.

The event was one of a series of events to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the civil rights march from Selma to Montgomery, when the church served as one of the gathering places for civil rights leaders.

The 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday is March 7, and it is when state police attacked those who were marching across the Edmund Pettus Bridge en route to Montgomery. The incident was broadcast live by many news organizations.
