Clean-Up Begins of Massive California Oil Spill

Workers continue to assess and clean up an area of the California coast near Santa Barbara on May 20 after an oil spill. A pipe owned by Plains All American Pipeline that runs along the coast burst on May 19, spewing 21,000 gallons of oil into the Pacific Ocean, according to local media. The US Coast Guard has launched a clean-up effort and will assess the scope of the spill.

The spill affected a four-mile stretch from El Refugio State Beach toward El Capitan State Beach, which is north of Santa Barbara. Those beaches were closed by state officials.
