Crowd Remembers VonDerrit Myers Jr on Ferguson Anniversary

The weekend of events in the Ferguson area included a remembrance for VonDerrit Myers Jr, a teenager who was fatally shot by an off-duty St. Louis police officer in October 2014. The shooting was a few months after the fatal shooting of Michael Brown, which sparked protests and unrest in Ferguson last August. People gathered where Myers was shot on Saturday, August 8, holding a rally and march to remember the teen, according to local media.

This footage shows some of the scene in the Shaw neighborhood of St. Louis, which is where Myers was shot.

Events are scheduled throughout the weekend to commemorate the anniversary of Brown’s death on August 9, 2014. Brown’s death and the ensuing protests is considered the be the start of the Black Lives Matter movement, which calls for criminal justice reform. Credit: Instagram/realflytye
