Crowds Hold 'Unite' Signs During Remembrance March in Selma

Thousands participated in a remembrance march on Sunday, March 8, across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, where police clubbed and tear gassed peaceful civil rights protesters in 1965.

United States Attorney General Eric Holder, the Rev. Al Sharpton, members of the Alabama Congressional delegation and many other activists descended on Selma for the 50th anniversary of “Bloody Sunday,” to commemorate the civil rights marchers that spurred the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

US President Barack Obama led a march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge on Saturday. During his remarks, Obama said, “50 years from Bloody Sunday, our march is not yet finished, but we’re getting closer.” This footage shows the president’s full address. Credit: Instagram/erikjprovitt
