Cruise Ship Rides Out Storm After Sydney Harbour Shuts

Wild weather whipped Sydney and surrounding regions in New South Wales on Monday afternoon, April 20, through to Tuesday, April 21. The Carnival Spirit cruise ship was stranded during its final leg into Sydney as the New South Wale Port Authority closed the Sydney Harbour port on Tuesday morning.

The New South Wales State Emergency Service was overwhelmed with emergency calls, carrying out 3,552 jobs and 23 flood rescues by Tuesday morning. Two people were missing and 180,000 homes were left without power. Several schools were closed on Tuesday and transport services affected.
