Cyclone Nathan Whips Up King Tide in Cairns

Cyclone Nathan hit far north Queensland around 4am on Friday, March 20, as a Category 4 storm, but avoided causing serious damage as it weakened over land. Cooktown, around 100 kms (62 miles) south of Cape Flattery, where the storm made landfall, sustained minor damage with around 500 homes left without power.

Further south, the storm’s wind whipped up waves and caused a high tide in Cairns, as can be seen in this video. Credit: Facebook/Cairns Regional Council
