Cyclone Pam Causes 'Humanitarian Crisis' in Vanuatu

Most of the housing in Vanuatu’s capital, Port Vila, was reportedly destroyed after Cyclone Pam swept through the country on the evening of March 13-14. At least eight people were reported dead, with thousands more left homeless.

Colin Collet van Rooyen, Oxfam’s country director in Port Vila, said it was one of the “worst disasters ever seen in the Pacific,” and predicted that the scale of humanitarian need would be “enormous.”
