Initial reports indicated significant damage in Vanuatu’s northern provinces after the category five Cyclone Pam slammed the islands overnight on March 14. Power outages were reported, and communication was sporadic. At least six people were reported to have died and most of Port Villa was destroyed, according to the Red Cross.
