Demonstrations in Bujumbura Despite Government Threat of Crackdown

Over 100 people took to the streets of Bujumbura on Tuesday, May 19, in a demonstration against Burundi’s President Pierre Nkurunziza who is seeking what opponents describe as an unconstitutional third term in office. According to reports, demonstrators carried banners and shouted slogans as they marched through the streets, despite government threats of a crackdown on demonstrations.
