Dominica Prime Minister Surveys Erika Damage

Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit on August 29 toured communities affected by Tropical Storm Erika, which battered the island nation earlier this week. At least 20 people died as the storm caused flooding and triggered landslides in parts of the island. Skerrit said the storm had set back development in Dominica by 20 years but he vowed to rebuild.

In a televised address on August 28, Skerrit said, “The extent of the devastation is monumental. It is far worse than expected. It is true that many communities like Petite Savanne, Delices and Coulibistrie have been swamped and are still cut off from the rest of Dominica, but nearly every community has been hit.” Credit: YouTube/Dominica Government (GIS)
