Egypt Deploys Armed Forces Across Country

Egypt deployed armed forces to protect key installations across the country on Monday, February 16, just hours after the nation launched airstrikes against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militants in Libya. The airstrikes came a day after the Islamic State released a propaganda video purportedly showing the beheading of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christian workers in Libya who had been kidnapped in December and January.

“Armed Forces personnel began to deploy in all provinces to protect public and private facilities, secure main roads and corridors and participate in hunting down criminals and outlaws,” Army spokesman Mohamed Samir said in a statement, according to Anadolu Agency.
