Endangered Big Horn Sheep Restored to National Parks

State and federal agencies worked together to return two herds of bighorn sheep, an endangered species, to Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks between March 26-29. Nine females and three males were moved from the Inyo National Forest and Sequoia National Park to the Cathedral Range in Yosemite National Park, according to a press release. Seven more females were moved to the Laurel Creek area of Sequoia National Park with three males to follow.

The Sierra Nevada bighorn sheep is the only federally endangered mammal in Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon. The animal was first listed in 2000 after the population was under 100. The population is now over 600. Credit: Facebook/Yosemite National Park
