Evacuations Ordered as Japanese Volcano Erupts

Mount Shindake, a volcano on the southern Japanese island of Kuchinoerabujima, erupted around 10am on Friday morning. Japan’s Meteorological Agency issued a level 5 alert at 10:07am, prompting evacuation of the island’s 130-140 residents. Pyroclastic flow from the eruption has reached the coast, NHK reported.
