Far-Right Groups, Riot Police Clash at Anti-Immigrant Rally Near Rome

A protest by far-right groups and local residents against relocation of asylum seekers to a northern Rome suburb turned violent on Friday, July 17. Fourteen police officers were injured in the clashes in Casale San Nicola, where a former school has been designated as a reception centre for about 100 migrants.

A police-escorted bus transferring 19 migrants only reached the school with difficulty as protesters blocked the road.

The neo-fascist CasaPound Italia was among the groups at the protest and posted this video showing protesters being pushed back by a police line to Facebook. Credit: Facebook/CasaPound Italia
