Ferguson Stores Raided Following Police Shooting Vigil

Looters raided several stores in Ferguson, Missouri, following a vigil for a 18-year-old man shot dead by police on Sunday, August 10. A peaceful vigil was held outside the victim’s apartment block but confrontations between protesters and police flared later on August 10. Witnesses claimed that Michael Brown was unarmed and had his hands in the air when he was shot dead on August 9.

The vigil officially began at 8pm, but some protesters had taken to the streets earlier in the day (see Storyful coverage here and here).

As the night went on, St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporters on the scene tweeted that police officers in riot gear and a SWAT team had been dispatched following reports of clashes and looting. Credit: Umar Lee, Evening-Whirl
