FIFA Holds Press Conference Following Arrest of Senior Officials

FIFA spokesman Walter De Gregorio hosted a press conference on May 27 in Zurich, several hours after Swiss police arrested a number of senior FIFA officials.

The US Department of Justice said 14 people had been indicted for 14 people – nine senior officials and four corporate executives – on charges of racketeering, wire fraud, and money laundering conspiracies.

Swiss prosecutors also opened investigations into the proceedings of the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bids.

De Gregorio said FIFA president Sepp Blatter, who stands for re-election on Friday, May 29, was not implicated in the investigation. The opening of the press conference can be seen here. Credit: FIFA
