Fight Is Against Those Who Pervert Islam, Obama Says

US President Barack Obama addressed the Summit on Countering Violent Extremism on February 18 in Washington, D.C. The president said that fighting against extremism is not a challenge to just the United States. The government works with other countries to dismantle these groups and it takes time and vigilance. The battle, he said, is against those who pervert Islam, not against Muslims.

“They do depend upon the misperception around the world that they speak in some fashion for people of the Muslim faith, that Islam is somehow inherently violent, that there is some sort of clash of civilizations,” Obama said.
