[File] Americans Misled About Economy, Ben Carson Says; Baltimore Riots Result

In a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson joined four other candidates for the GOP presidential nomination in a first-place tie, putting Carson in a comfortable place before forthcoming televised debates. Only the top 10 GOP candidates will appear in the August 6 and September 16 events. Carson on May 9 outlined his positions on a range of issues in this video, posted by Citizens United on May 26.

Carson said the US economy needs, at the very least, a jumpstart, and said the Obama administration has been painting too rosy a picture. “We need to be talking about no debt, a balanced budget amendment, we need to be talking about term limits, not only for people in Congress, but we need to be talking about term limits for judges too,” he said. “So many of our problems are linked to a poor economy.”

Characterizing himself as someone who has experienced American life at all strata of economic class, Carson said the economic recovery that began in 2008 has been laboriously slow. “One of the reasons that a lot of people are frustrated and are easily manipulated into rioting and doing the kind of things that we saw in Baltimore, is because they hear all this stuff, about how wonderful things [are], but then when they open their eyes and look around, they don’t see it,” he said. “There’s been plenty of change, but there’s very little hope, and that’s what’s killing people.” Credit: YouTube/Citizens United
