FILE: Bernie Sanders' Brother Campaigns for MP in South-East England

Longtime Independent Vermont Senator and 2016 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is not the only Sanders to throw his hat in the political ring. His older brother Larry Sanders is on the ballot papers in Oxfordshire, running as a Green Party candidate in Oxford West and Abingdon. He has lived in Oxford since 1969, after marrying an English woman.

According to his profile on the Oxfordshire Green Party website, Sanders stands against inequality, the privatisation of the NHS, and is critical of the tax system, which he says favours the rich over the poor — campaign platforms that echo that of his brother.

The New York Times ran a piece quoting the elder Sanders, saying he was unlikely to win: “In the last election, the Green party won just 2 percent of the vote. Garnering 10 percent this time would be a success.”
