Football match-fixing suspect arrested in Milan

Italian authorities arrested the associate of Singapore businessman and alleged major ‘fixer’ Dan Tan in Milan on Thursday.

The man, identified as 31-year-old Admir Suljic, arrived at Malpensa airport in the early hours to find police waiting for him after a tip-off by Singapore authorities.

Interpol said Suljic was one of more than 500 fugitives wanted by 59 member countries as part of 2012 Operation Infra-Red — which has so far led to 130 people being arrested or located.

Europol, the European anti-crime agency has identified nearly 700 suspicious matches around the world, including Champions League and World Cup qualifying fixtures.
