Forest Fire Rages Near Chernobyl

A wildfire was nearing the decommissioned nuclear power plant at Chernobyl, Ukraine, on Tuesday, April 28. Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk took a helicopter flight over the fire and said that it was controllable despite being the biggest fire in the area since 1992.

The Number 4 reactor at the Chernobyl nuclear plant suffered a catastrophic meltdown on April 26, 1986, the worst such accident in history in terms of casualties and costs. The plant was not entirely shutdown, however, until 1996. Credit: YouTube/Арсеній Яценюк (Arsenіy Yatsenyuk)
