Former Commonwealth Bank Executive Arrested on Bribery Charges

A former executive from the Commonwealth Bank was arrested and charged with bribery offenses on Tuesday, March 17. A 61-year-old Surrey Hills man was charged with two counts of bribery following a joint New South Wales Police and US Federal Bureau of Investigation probe into US$1.5 million of suspected corrupt payments.

“The Commonwealth Bank of Australia and its staff approached the New South Wales Police Fraud Squad to report two of their senior IT executives who were receiving suspicious payments from a non-profit organization in the United States. This non-profit organization was being financed by a US-based IT company which was a major supplier to the bank,” said Detective Superintendent Arthur Katsogiannis, commander of the Fraud and Cybercrime Squad.
