Government Reclaims Port City Mariupol

Government forces announced they had reclaimed the port city of Mariupol from pro-Russian separatists on June 13, after heavy fighting. The offensive is part of the military’s larger anti-terrorist operation, aimed at reclaiming territory from separatists in eastern Ukraine.

Members of the Ukrainian National Guard arrested the self-proclaimed mayor of Mariupol Alexander Fomenko on June 12, for his affiliation with the People’s Republic of Donetsk militants.
