Gunbattle Spills Into Second Day in Kumanovo

Clashes between police forces and an armed group in the Macedonian town of Kumanovo dragged into a second day on Sunday, May 10, after five policemen were killed and dozens more injured the day before. Shots were reportedly heard in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, and reportedly calmed down a few hours later.

Macedonian authorities did not elaborate on who the armed group were, but said they came form a neighboring country.

According to RFE/RL, armed men, aligning themselves with the disbanded Albanian paramilitary group, the Kosovo Liberation Army, attacked a border checkpoint in northern Macedonia last month. Credit: YouTube/sanja Minkovska
