High Winds, Rain Batter Taiwan as Soudelor Makes Landfall

Powerful typhoon Soudelor made landfall near Hualien City on Taiwan’s east coast on Saturday morning, August 8, with wind gusts of up to 125 mph, the equivalent of a category 3 hurricane. Already on Friday night some 82,000 homes were without power.
