Hollande Condemns Burkina Faso Coup

French President François Hollande on September 17 condemned the recent coup in Burkina Faso. Hollande said an electoral process was running its course, and called for the release of those who had been detained. He said France had a friendly relationship with Burkina Faso, and could not allow to happen what was taking place.

In an announcement broadcast on state television on September 17, a spokesman for Burkina Faso’s military confirmed the dissolution of the government and the institution of a “National Council for Democracy”.
