House Speaker Meets With Pope Francis Before Congressional Speech

Pope Francis met with Speaker John Boehner on September 24 before speaking before a joint session of Congress. Boehner, a lifelong Catholic, has been inviting popes to Congress for 20 years, and Francis is the first to accept, according to Politico. After a photo opportunity, Francis and Boehner met in private along with American church leaders.
