IAEA and Iran Sign Nuclear Programme Deal

Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency signed an agreement on July 14 which would allow inspectors to probe allegation that Tehran operated a clandestine nuclear weapons program. IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano and Iranian Vice-President Ali Akbar Salehi, who is also president of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, signed the “road-map” at Vienna’s Palais Coburg.

“This should enable me to issue a report setting out the agency’s final assessment of possible military dimensions to Iran’s nuclear program, for the action of the IAEA Board of Governors, by 15 December 2015,” said Amano in a statement.

The IAEA agreement was signed ahead of Iran striking a deal with six world world powers agreeing to lift sanctions in return for curbs on Tehran’s nuclear research. Credit: YouTube/United Nations
