Impressive Vonn repeats Lake Louis clean sweep

3 December 2012

Canadian alpine skiing officials could be forgiven for thinking of changing the name of Lake Louise to Lake Lindsey after American speed queen Lindsey Vonn racked up her 14th World Cup win and second consecutive clean sweep of the three-race event at the Canadian resort.

Vonn – who won both the downhill races on Friday and Saturday as she did last season – was again in dazzling form as she won Sunday’s Super-G in a time of one minute 22.82 seconds to complete the clean sweep.

It was the four-time overall world cup champion’s 56th career world cup victory which puts her second in the all-time winners list behind Austria’s Annamarie Moser-Proell on 62.

Vonn’s team-mate Julia Mancuso came home in second place to complete an American one two on the podium.

The three time Olympic medallist and last year’s overall Super-G runner up was four tenths of a second slower as she was left hunting her first Super-G win at Lake Louis after two third place finishes and Sunday’s second place.

Last season’s runner up at the event Anna Fenninger of Austria had to settle for third two hundredths of a second behind Mancuso.
