Iraqi Forces Launch Attack on Islamic State Militants in Al Baghdadi

The Iraqi Ministry of Defense (MOD) released footage on Monday, February 23, described as showing their operations in al-Baghdadi, where Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militants have been entrenched since earlier this month. The Iraqi army’s 7th Division joined with tribal forces and were moving to retake the town on Monday, according to reports.

Lieutenant General James Terry, senior US commander of the coalition against IS, said that some 800 Iraqi troops were involved in the attack, backed by US warplanes. The head of the Anbar Provincial Council reported that Iraqi forces recaptured al-Baghdadi police station and had reached the town center, according to Reuters. Credit: Iraqi MOD
