Islamic State Militants Clash With Kurdish Fighters in Al Hasaka

Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS or ISIL) militants clashed with People’s Protection Units (YPG) fighters in northern al-Hasaka province, Syria, in recent days. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based monitoring group, reported through local sources that at least 24 IS militants were killed in the battle in the Tal Tamir countryside on April 11, amid airstrikes on IS targets carried out by the US-led coalition.

A Kurdish official confirmed to Reuters that the battle began when IS militants launched an assault between Tel Tamer, a town in northwestern Syria, and Tal Hamis, which was retaken by Kurdish forces in February. Credit: Aamaq News
