ISS Astronauts Eat Vegetables Grown on Station for First Time

Three astronauts aboard the International Space Station became the first people to eat vegetables grown on the station on August 10. Astronauts Scott Kelly, Kjell Lindgren and Kimiya Yui of Japan sampled some red romaine lettuce, cultivated by the station’s Veggie plant growth system.

An experiment called “Lada” had been testing plant growth in microgravity on the ISS since 2002, but astronauts had not eaten any station-produced food before this footage was shot. Credit: YouTube/NASAKennedy
