John Kerry Warns Russia Over Military Operations in Syria

Speaking at the International Peace and Security and Countering Terrorism meeting at the United Nations in New York City on September 30, US Secretary of State John Kerry said the US “supports any genuine effort to fight ISIL” but warned Russia over its military operations in Syria.

“We have made clear that we would have grave concerns should Russia strike where ISIL and al-Qaeda affiliated targets are not operating… strikes of that kind would question Russia’s real intentions fighting ISIL or protecting the Assad regime,” Kerry said.

“We have informed Russia that we are prepared to hold these deconfliction talks as early as possible this week, but let me be clear, the United States and the coalition will continue our ongoing operations as we have from the very beginning.” Credit: YouTube/Department of State
