In a twist on the virtual concert, the Bon Jovi front man has asked fans on social media to contribute verses to a song he wrote titled, “Do What You Can” – his inspirational ode to these challenging times.

(SOUND BITE) (ENGLISH) JON BON JOVI, SAYING:

"It wasn't a conscious effort on my part, to you know, I need to do something unique. It just happened. And the response, because it's so genuine, have been genuine. And I think that that's the magic of this."

That’s Bon Jovi speaking to Reuters while sequestered in his home in Red Bank, New Jersey, where he recorded the song - leaving musical gaps like this…

The 58-year-old said that many of the verses he’s received reflect the hard work of first responders and other essential workers.

(SOUND BITE) (ENGLISH) JON BON JOVI, SAYING:

"Whether it was nurses or truckers or grocery store clerks.... But a week after I've written the song, they're the frontline heroes. So, now I'm getting verses submitted for this social call to action that are highlighting the good works of those."

For the past few weeks, Bon Jovi has also been working as a dishwasher at JBJ Soul Kitchen, a restaurant run by his foundation, which is open for take-out and to provide food for those in need.

(SOUND BITE) (ENGLISH) JON BON JOVI, SAYING:

"At this time, we don't have our volunteers, but we are still feeding the needy. So, I have to take my number down out of retirement and once again come back from retirement to be the dishwasher. And it's, it's really fulfilling."

Those who want to contribute to Bon Jovi’s song can post their lyrics on his social media accounts using the hashtag #DoWhatYouCan.
