Kentucky Clerk Says It's Under 'God's Authority' She Refuse Same-Sex Marriage Licenses

A Kentucky county clerk again refused marriage licenses to same-sex couples on September 1 even though the US Supreme Court ruled she must issue the documents. This local news footage shows Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis confronting protesters in her office in addition to the protesters outside the building.

A federal court has ordered Davis to appear on September 3 to explain why she should not be held in contempt of court. Her deputies are to appear too.

Davis had come to the counter after several couples had asked for licenses and were denied. She was confronted by protesters and the press. More protesters had gathered outside the building.

The US Supreme Court on August 31 rejected Davis’ request to be exempt from issuing licenses to same-sex couples based on her religious liberties. The court did not issue comment with its ruling. The court in June legalized same-sex marriage. Credit: Facebook/WKYT
