Kerry Speaks on Iran Deal at Council on Foreign Relations

US Secretary of State John Kerry explained the Iran nuclear deal during a talk with the Council on Foreign Relations on July 24. Under the deal, Iran will be allowed only one uranium enrichment plant, which will be open and monitored, he said. Kerry added that there will be 25 years of accountability of Iran’s uranium. The intelligence community states it will be impossible under the agreement to have a covert facility, Kerry said.

There is specific access and restraints on Iran’s program for 15 years, he said. Then Iran will become a country under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, but it will take time to earn that status, Kerry said.

All of the sanctions can be put back into place, Kerry said, and one nation under the agreement can force a vote on imposing them or veto a choice to end them. Credit: Facebook/US Department of State
