Kerry: US Ready to Take More Refugees

Secretary of State John Kerry said that the US will accept an additional 15,000 refugees over the next two years in a meeting with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin on Sunday. Kerry pledged to take 85,000 refugees in 2016 and 100,000 in 2017 in a bid to help Turkey, Lebanon and Europe cope with the ongoing migrant crisis.

“This step that I am announcing today I believe is in keeping with the best tradition of America as a land of second chances and a beacon of hope, and it will be accompanied by additional financial contributions to the humanitarian effort not only from our government but from the American people,” said Kerry.
