Kosovo Police Arrest Opposition Leader for Parliament Unrest

Police in Kosovo arrested Albin Kurti, founder of the Self-Determination movement, on November 28, for violent actions that disrupted the country’s parliament. Kurti was arrested along with dozens of others at his party’s headquarters, after thousands of people rallied on the streets of Pristina against the government’s deals with Serbia and Montenegro to increase the powers of ethnic Serbian communities on border demarcation.

Two policemen were injured when they entered the party headquarters, after being struck with projectiles thrown by the crowd, including chairs, while attempting to make the arrests. Opposition lawmakers have disrupted parliament with pepper spray, tear gas, whistles, and water bottles in recent months. Credit: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty
