Kurdish Fighters Seize Syrian Border Town From IS

Fighters of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) reported on Monday, June 15, that their forces had taken control of the northern Syrian border town of Tal Abyad from Islamic State (IS) militants. Over recent days thousands of Syrian refugees flocked to the Syrian-Turkish Tal Abyad-Akcakale border crossing to flee jihadist fighters.

On Sunday night, YPG reported that Kurdish fighters were closing in on Tal Abyad from all sides and on Monday morning photos of the town’s outskirts were posted on its Facebook page. Credit: YouTube/Ragihandina YPG
