Kurdish Forces Enter Sinjar Following Major Offensive

The Kurdish Regional Security Council (KRSC) said on November 13 that Kurdish Peshmerga forces had entered Sinjar following an offensive that began the day before. During the assault, Kurdish forces captured several villages from Islamic State forces, it said.

The KRSC said that the Peshmerga forces entered Sinjar from all directions to clear the area of remaining “Islamic State terrorists”. They said in a statement that Kurdish forces had captured more than 150 square kilometers (58 square miles) from Islamic State.

The official Twitter account of the International Coalition for Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) also said Peshmerga forces had entered Sinjar, and had removed Islamic State IEDs.
