Lifeboat Attempts Rescue, but Hot Tub Goes Adrift in English Channel

Despite the venerated RNLI’s attempts to save it, a hot tub has gone adrift in the English Channel. A 22-metre houseboat began taking on water while under tow from a tugboat off the coast of Newhaven, East Sussex, UK on Wednesday, June 17, the Sussex Express reported. A lifeboat from Newhaven and its volunteer crew were dispatched with due speed, but the tub, which had come loose from the boat, was too big and heavy to bring aboard.

The houseboat sank, leaving the semi-floating (and uninhabited) spa tub to the high seas. The crew did pick up some floating debris left behind. Credit: YouTube/Royal National Lifeboat Institution
