LIRR Broken Rails May Have Been Caused by Cold Weather

Long Island commuters had a rough morning on February 13 as broken rails on the Long Island Rail Road caused delays across the system. The broken rails may have been due to the temperatures that were in single digits in the morning hours, according to local reports. This video shows how slow one train on the Babylon line was moving.

There were five broken rails across the system, according to local media, which caused scattered delays. Service was suspended on one line in the early morning, but more broken rails caused problems even when service was restored. Credit: Instagram/Marie Cisco
