McKinney Police Officer 'Out of Control' in Pool Party Video Resigns

The McKinney, Texas, police officer caught on camera yelling at teenagers and drawing a gun at a pool party resigned from the force on June 10. City officials announced Eric Casebolt’s resignation during a press conference on June 10. Chief Greg Conley said the officer will keep his pension and benefits.

“As the chief of police I want to say to our community that the actions of Casebolt, as seen on the video of the disturbance at the community pool, are indefensible,” he said. “Our policies, our training and our practice do not support his actions. He came into the call out of control and as the video shows was out of control during the incident.”

Of 12 officers at the scene, 11 acted as they should, he said.

Conley said an internal affairs investigation is over since Casebolt is no longer an employee, but a criminal investigation into any allegations raised by the community is ongoing.

Mayor Brian Loughmiller said the pool party incident is not indicative of the community as a whole. “We have good, law-abiding citizens throughout our community including in our Craig Ranch community, and we have good public servants in our police and fire departments,” he said. “The actions of any one individual do not define us as a community.”

The mayor also said community leaders will look at what they can learn from the incident and how they can make the city better.

Casebolt’s resignation comes days after video surfaced of the McKinney police response to a disturbance at a pool party. The video shows the officer yelling at teenagers in bathing suits to sit down or go home before he forces one teen to the ground.
