Minneapolis Mayor Condemns Shooting of Protesters

Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges on Tuesday, November 24, condemned a shooting at a protest outside the police department’s fourth precinct. Her comments were posted on Facebook moments before police announced they had arrested one person in connection to the shooting.

Police said they arrested a 23-year-old white male in Bloomington, but they did not release the suspect’s name because he had not been formally charged yet. Police also are searching for additional suspects.

Five people suffered non-life threatening injuries from the shooting at about 10:40 pm on Monday. The incident happened at the ongoing Jamar Clark-related protest outside the precinct.

Black Lives Matter Minneapolis posted on Facebook the shooters were white supremacists who had been asked to leave and were followed out of the area by protesters. Local media reported there are three suspects in the case, and authorities are determining if the suspects should be charged with a hate crime.

Activists have been continually protesting outside the Minneapolis police precinct for over a week after the fatal shooting of Clark while he was in police custody. The protesters are asking for the release of video gathered of Clark’s shooting. Credit: Facebook/Betsy Hodges
