Modi and Merkel Visit Industrial Trade Fair in Hannover

India’s prime minister Narendra Modi and German chancellor Angela Merkel met at the opening of the “Hannover Messe” – Germany and the world’s largest industrial trade fair – on Sunday, April 12, with both leaders calling for closer commercial cooperation between the two countries.

“Trade between Germany and India can still be improved, although Germany is already India’s largest European trading partner,” Merkel said.

PM Modi, who was making his first official trip to Germany as prime minister said, “Germany has done more than any other Western country to tap India’s world of business.”

Prime minister Modi’s visit to Germany was the second leg of a three-nation tour, which also sees him visit Canada on Tuesday for talks with Canadian PM Stephen Harper in Ottawa.
