MSF Says Refugees in Kos Stuck in Appalling Conditions

Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) reported on August 28 that thousands of refugees and migrants are stuck in “appalling” conditions on the Greek island of Kos. Between January and July 2015, 18,600 refugees arrived on Kos by boat from Turkey, MSF said. According to MSF, most are fleeing war and violence in Syria, but many have come from Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran and Pakistan.

Kos had “no adequate system to receive these people,” MSF said, “which has resulted in chaotic scenes where many new arrivals are forced to sleep in public places or in the overcrowded, abandoned Captain Elias hotel, which lacks basic facilities.” Credit: YouTubeMSF
