Nepal Volunteers Survey Earthquake Damage

The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that a 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on Tuesday, May 12, 83km (52 miles) east of Kathmandu, and close to the base of Mount Everest. The USGS initially said the quake had a magnitude of 7.1. The quake was later upgraded to a magnitude of 7.4 before being downgraded to a magnitude of 7.3.

According to reports, the quake, which lasted just over one minute, was felt as far away as northern India. More than 8,000 people died in a 7.8-magnitude quake in Nepal on April 25, which destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes. This video shows staff members of Quick Change Nepal, an NGO founded in the aftermath of the April 25 earthquake, assessing the damage caused by the quake.
