NTSB Blames Virgin Galactic Builder for Mojave Desert Crash

The National Transportation Safety Board blamed the builder of Virgin Galatic’s SpaceShipTwo for not anticipating a co-pilot error that led to the craft’s disintegration and crash during a test flight last October in the Mojave Desert in California. The board had initially listed co-pilot Michael Alsbury’s error as the probable cause for the crash. Alsbury was killed and pilot Peter Siebold survived.

The NTSB ruling came during a hearing in Washington on July 28, which is when this video was released.

The craft was 10 miles above the earth on October 31 when it broke apart after its rocket engines were fired. This video is listed as a scaled composite of what happened after the rocket engine was fired. Credit: YouTube/National Transportation Safety Board
