Obama Delivers Remarks on Talks With GCC Representatives at Camp David

US President Barack Obama delivered brief remarks after security talks with representatives of the Gulf Corporation Council members at Camp David on May 14. Obama sought to reassure the nations – Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Oman – of US-led efforts to reach a nuclear deal with Iran.

In a short statement at a photo shoot, Obama said they discussed the deal and the “potential for us to ensure that Iran is not obtaining a nuclear weapon and triggering a nuclear arms race in the region” and “pledged cooperation” in addressing “Iran’s destabilizing activities in the region.”

Of the six GCC member states, only the Kuwaiti and Qatari heads of state attended, while the rest signaled their frustration by sending deputies to the rare summit. Credit: YouTube/White House
